The Minister of Industry and Commerce of Morocco, Ryad Mezzour, welcomed the President of the European Patent Office (EPO), Antonio Campinos, during his official working visit to Rabat on May 3, 2023. This visit to strengthen cooperation between the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and the European Patent Office (EPO), who have been working together for several years to build a system of patents and innovation favorable to competitiveness Moroccan companies and the development of foreign investment.
This visit was also marked by the holding of a joint commission between OMPIC and the EPO, chaired by Mr. Abdelaziz Babqiqi, Director General of OMPIC and Mr. Antonio Campinos, President of the EPO. The meeting took place on May 4, 2023 at the Office’s headquarters in Casablanca, and focused on cooperation projects between the two offices, particularly in the examination and granting of patents, capacity building and the promotion of industrial property information.
Discussions also focused on the importance of international cooperation on intellectual property for economic development and business competitiveness. Representatives of OMPIC and the EPO discussed the current and future challenges facing organizations in terms of intellectual property protection, particularly in the context of a globalized economy and increased digitization of trade.
The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, stressed the importance of cooperation with the EPO to strengthen Morocco’s intellectual property system and encourage innovation and creativity. This visit was therefore an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and Europe in the field of intellectual property, with a view to stimulating economic growth and technological development.
