Yesterday, Mr. Mitsotakis, accompanied by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sophia Zacharakisvisited the nursery “Argentios Paediki Stegi” in Thisio, which has been included in the pre-school education and creative employment program, funded by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family with national and European funds.
The prime minister confirmed the information that at the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki he will refer in detail to his government’s strategy for dealing with the demographic problem.
“The school year for nurseries and daycare centers has already started and I want to take the opportunity of my visit today to “Argentio” to reiterate our government’s commitment to substantial and practical support for families with young children, so that families can to know that they can leave their babies, their young children in nurseries and daycare centers that emphasize quality first and foremost”, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized, to add: “This year we increased the vouchers even more which we give for daycare centers and nurseries, for creative employment centers, for creative employment centers for children with disabilities, to which we always give first priority, and our aim is to be able to offer even more vouchers every year, so that to provide financial relief to families with small children and primarily to facilitate working mothers”.
Mr. Mitsotakis revealed that he already has in his hands the conclusions of a group of scientists on how he can make interventions in the operation of daycare centers, so that they are not a place where children simply pass the time.
The prime minister reiterated that he attaches great weight and importance “to the programs of early and early diagnosis of possible learning functions. Such problems can be much more easily detected by a well-trained staff in daycare centers. It’s a new program that we’re going to launch so that we can identify these children who are having such difficulties as quickly as possible, because we know that early, early intervention greatly increases the chances that these children will then acquire a completely normal course and a normal life”.
For her part, the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharakis, pointed out: “In the battle we are fighting for demographics, all this harmonization of professional and family life, this helping hand that we will give to the working parent, to the mother in order to work, I think it’s very important. This year, with the program co-financed by the Regular Budget, the money we give for vouchers has exceeded 379 million, which means that about 173,000 vouchers have been given, and 105,000 of them are for parents for nurseries and kindergartens, while we commit that for 2025 and beyond, the program will be in place to add 20,000 places in nurseries and kindergartens, a program of 70 million from the Recovery Fund.”
