Turkey – Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat discussed on Wednesday with Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan Al-Khatib ways to strengthen economic and trade relations and update the existing free trade agreement between the two countries.

In a post on the X platform, Bulat indicated that he had a fruitful meeting with Al-Khatib, who is accompanying Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his visit to Turkey, and his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He added: “During the meeting, we discussed our determination to develop our bilateral economic and trade relations, and to update the existing free trade agreement between Turkey and Egypt, in a way that benefits both countries.”

Bulat said that he discussed with Al-Khatib issues of enhancing trade exchange between the two countries in national currencies, and developing mutual investment relations.

The Turkish minister confirmed that he agreed with his Egyptian counterpart to take tangible steps, such as organizing events that bring together business leaders in the two countries, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between them.

He expressed his confidence in reaching the level of $15 billion annually in trade exchange between the two countries within a short period through steps of this kind.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkey and Egypt signed 17 agreements, in the presence of the two countries’ presidents, Erdogan and Sisi.

Erdogan and Sisi chaired the high-level meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council at the Presidential Complex in the capital Ankara, followed by the signing ceremony of the agreements.
