Brossard switches to LED lighting. From mid-September, the street lighting modernization plan will be rolled out across the territory, leading to the conversion of 4,808 street lighting fixtures, currently sodium, to light-emitting diode (LED) technology. .
This shift requires an investment of $1.8 million, but will generate, the City estimates, a reduction in annual expenses estimated at nearly $349,000.
The goal of the project is to optimize lighting conditions and benefit from financial and environmental benefits – an LED bulb lasts 5 times longer than a high-pressure sodium bulb. Technology is helping to reduce the city’s energy consumption.
LED lights also increase safety and make it easier to perceive colors and shapes.
“The equipment installed is certified “dark sky” and minimizes the light pollution emitted by street lighting”, mentions the City.
It is possible to follow the progress of the installation of the streetlights on the City’s website, thanks to the Lumières sur le Québec map, from the Fédération québécoise des municipalités. (AD)
