Streamflation: Music, series and games – you have to pay so much more for streaming services
Anyone who uses the subscription services of Netflix, Spotify or Playstation has to pay more and more for it. The price increases are not always transparent.

Disney+ is changing its subscription structure from November. There are now three variants: Standard with for 7.90 francs per month, Standard for 12.90 francs and Premium for 17.90 francs.

Streamflation: that’s what it’s all regarding
Numerous streaming services are increasing prices or have already increased them.
The price increases are between two and five francs. Anyone who has multiple subscriptions will notice this clearly.
20 Minutes shows the additional costs using a fictitious couple.
Kevin and his girlfriend Cheyenne have decided to move in together. Since they previously lived in a shared apartment and shared their streaming subscriptions with friends or paid nothing for them, they now have to renew all memberships. All subscriptions have become more expensive.
Disney+ is changing its subscription structure – if you don’t do anything, you pay more
Cheyenne loves series. She has already watched “How I Met Your Mother” three times – all seasons. Now she also wants to bingewatch “How I Met Your Father,” for which she needs a Disney+ subscription. She opts for the standard subscription, which costs 12.90 francs per month. But be careful: from November 1st it will automatically be converted into a premium subscription and costs 17.90 francs, five francs more.
So for September and October she still pays 12.90, then 17.90 per month. For a whole year it costs 204.80 francs; previously an annual subscription cost 129 francs. 75.80 Franken so she pays extra.
No more account sharing on Netflix
Kevin prefers Netflix, “Ragnarök” is currently on his program, and he sometimes watches “Love Island” for his girlfriend’s sake. He was previously allowed to use a friend’s account, but this has no longer been possible since May. He has to create an additional account and pays 5.90 francs per month.
So he pays annually 70.80 Franken.
Spotify subscriptions have become one or two francs more expensive
Kevin and Cheyenne also have to dig deeper into their pockets when it comes to Spotify. At CHF 18.95, your Premium Duo subscription costs two francs more per month, i.e. per year 24 Franken additional, 227.40 annually.
Gaming subscriptions for Xbox and Playstation with surcharges
Kevin is a passionate gamer and owns both an Xbox Series X and a Playstation 5. He has the most expensive subscription option for both consoles. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate previously cost 15 francs per month, but since September it has been 17 francs, bringing the total to 204 francs per year. Additional costs: 24 Franken.
There are three different subscriptions for the Playstation, these were the prices before September 2023:
PS Plus Essentials: 9.90 per month, annual subscription 69.90
PS Plus Extra: 15.50 per month, annual subscription 116.90
PS Plus Premium: 18.90 per month, annual subscription 139.90
Since September 6th, higher prices for annual subscriptions have been in effect worldwide. The prices for the monthly subscriptions remain the same.
PS Plus Essentials: 78.90 francs (plus nine francs)
PS Plus Extra: 139.90 (plus 23 Franken)
PS Plus Premium: 169.90 (plus 30 Franken)
Kevin pays 373.90 per year for his gaming subscriptions and so 54 Franken more.
If you want to watch all football leagues, you have to pay a lot
Kevin is a die-hard football fan. He has a Blue Sport subscription for the Swiss leagues and the Champions League. This has cost around five francs more at CHF 34.90 per month since June 2023.
The Blue Sport subscription costs him per year 60 Franken more.
Bundesliga on Sky Sport and Dazn
Of course, the Bundesliga shouldn’t be missed either. He has a subscription to Sky Switzerland for this. The monthly price for the Sky subscription was increased in June 2023. The price was previously 19.90, now it is 24.90 francs. After six months, Kevin receives a loyalty discount of four francs per month.
Price until June 2023: 19.90 francs per month
Price from June 2023: 24.90 francs per month, following six months 20.90 per month
Annual costs: 274.80 francs. Additional costs: 36 Franken.
Because Kevin also wants to watch the Friday and Sunday games with German commentary and also the games of Ronaldo, Neymar and Benzema in the Saudi League, he also has a Dazn subscription.
Price until the end of 2022: 12.90 francs per month (annual subscription 129 francs)
Price since January 2023: 24.90 francs per month, (optionally 249.99 with an annual subscription)
These are 120 Franken more per year.
Kevin and Cheyenne pay for their subscriptions in total 1820 Franken for a year, compared to last year 465 Franken more, so round 25 percent.
