Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock and three mussels ensured that “Demolition Man” achieved cult status – and is still incredibly fun today. The science fiction action hit is now available as a subscription on Amazon Prime Video.

The fact that “Demolition Man” was a success at the box office in 1993 probably didn’t surprise anyone. Sylvester Stallone had long since become one of the biggest action stars of all time and was considered the ultimate crowd puller, Sandra Bullock was already getting her first leading roles and was regarding to have her big breakthrough – and Wesley Snipes also had plenty of star power. After all, the future “Blade” star was still a long way away from tax fraud, imprisonment and the direct-to-video thrillers that were quickly scaled down in Eastern Europe…

… still, the science fiction action thriller didn’t fare too well with critics. Today the film is still cult – and the author of this article thinks: quite rightly so! Do you want to give the film, which offers two hours of perfect 90s blockbuster entertainment, a chance or see how well the now 30-year-old film has aged? Then you now have a great and convenient way to do this. Because “Demolition Man” is now included in your Amazon Prime Video subscription – and is available to all subscribers as a stream at no additional cost:

You can expect, among others, Wesley Snipes as a blonde terrorist, who even inspired cult basketball player Dennis Rodman with his hair, and a hardened Sylvester Stallone, as always, who doesn’t even know how to use “the three mussels”. There’s also, of course, a lot of handmade action, which always reaches its climax when Snipes and Stallone clash – and there’s a lot of lead, quick sayings and more thrown around at each other.

“Demolition Man”: Fun, explosive, cool – and as entertaining as a blockbuster can be

That’s what it’s regarding: Police officer John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) ensures law and order in Los Angeles in 1996 – and doesn’t shy away from exceeding the limits of legality in order to apprehend the criminals. A factory building is sometimes reduced to rubble and ashes.

However, when one day he falls into the trap of the crazy terrorist Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), Spartan himself is put behind bars for manslaughter – and is put into cold sleep, from which he is only awakened 36 years later. The reason: Phoenix managed to escape and is causing fear and terror in the city now known as San Angeles. Spartan is supposed to make him harmless once and for all – but at the same time he also has to contend with a number of challenges. Because the world has changed a lot in all that time…

Stream now: Probably Sylvester Stallone’s best film – even “Rambo” and the “Expendables” can do it!

Above all, “Demolition Man” works according to one motto: brains out, fun! Because director Marco Brambilla and his screenwriters clearly didn’t make any effort to reflect the potential image of the real future – following all, 2032 is only nine years away and there aren’t too many similarities to reality yet. And it doesn’t have to be that way. Because in the end, it’s perhaps the many absurd decisions (like Wesley Snipes’ hairstyle) and quirky ideas (the three shells mentioned) that contribute to the film’s high fun factor.

Apart from that, what you can primarily expect is a fantastic, well-rounded star ensemble – which also includes Benjamin Bratt, Jack Black, Denis Leary and Rob Schneider – as well as a dystopia created with great attention to detail, which is called visual basis of a handmade effect spectacle shows a world that is still distant and unlikely, but incredibly exciting.
