Strategies for Dealing with Rising Fuel Prices: Insights from Professionals and Their Pricing Dilemma

While fuel prices have risen sharply this summer, professionals are sometimes forced to pass this increase on to their prices. Others hesitate, for fear of losing activity.

Gasoline, which is close to 2 euros per litre, diesel at nearly 1.90 euros: as the start of the school year approaches, fuel prices are at high levels at the station. Logical consequence: professionals sometimes find themselves forced to pass on this increase to their own prices.

This is the case for Jordan Morisset, caterer, with a full tank of diesel which now represents a substantial budget, between 130 and 140 euros:

“We explain it to customers, due to the inflation of raw materials, gasoline, which we have to pass on to them,” he explains to BFMTV.

“I’m not going to take revenge on my clients”

Roland Gonsalès, craftsman, has also noted a constant rise in prices since 2020. From a full average of 26 euros, it rose to 32 euros in 2021 and 35 euros in 2022. He made the choice not to increase his prices, for the moment:

“If I increase my prices, I fear having a lot less activity (…), I will not take revenge on my customers for the increases made by the oil companies”, explains Roland Gonsalès at the microphone of BFMTV.

Since July 7, diesel has increased on average by nearly 17 cents and gasoline by 13 cents, according to weekly readings from the Ministry of Ecological Transition. Increases which are mainly explained by that of the price of a barrel of crude oil and stronger demand during the summer.
