Strategies coordinated with the private sector were key to staggering numbers, highlighted Abdo

Asunción, IP Agency.- The President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, pointed out that a coordinated strategy with the private sector was one of Paraguay’s keys to a recovery following the covid-19 pandemic and “astonishing numbers at the end of his administration.”

Abdo participated in a conversation between heads of state and more than 1,000 businessmen during the Ibero-American Summit, which runs until this Saturday the 25th in the Dominican Republic.

Paraguay was presented in the panel as an example of positive transformation, to which the Paraguayan president attributed the importance of accompanying the productive and working sector.

This led to staggering management numbers, such as the record of more than 4,000 km of paved roads in five years, which exceeds the 3,900 km built in the previous 30 years. Or the economic impact of 0.8% in the first year of the pandemic, when the region fell 7.4%.

Abdo highlighted that Paraguay has stable growth numbers for the last 20 years and has growth expectations of 5% by 2023, according to organizations such as the IMF and the World Bank.

Integration processes

The discussion also dealt with the integration processes, where Abdo expressed his optimism that the world is at an important point to strengthen these processes.

For Paraguay and Mercosur, he indicated that there is the possibility of a complementary integration that guarantees food for Europe, the rest of America and the world.

“I think the way is to get involved and be protagonists and custodians of the future of our region and our nations, because the future depends on more and more people of good will being protagonists,” he pointed out in his closing remarks.

The conversation took place as a prelude to the meeting of heads of state and government of the Ibero-American Summit. The presidents of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader and of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and the Ibero-American Secretary General, Andrés Allamand, participated.

The forum brought together the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, among businessmen, authorities and representatives of multilateral organizations.
