Game News Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin: a still average PC version by Square Enix?
The Nioh and Dark Souls-style spin-off of the Final Fantasy saga has been available since March 18 on consoles and PC. If the game has already been criticized for its rather dated technique, it seems that this new PC port is struggling to convince the community.
Bugs, clipping, aliasing: a PC port below current standards?
The first opinions concerning the different versions of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin begin to fall from the players and the least we can say is that the PC version takes for its rank. If Square Enix has always had trouble seducing users of the platform, the feedback from the community for this latest port is far from flattering.
The first major problem would come from the “Souls Burst”, a kind of finish move which, once launched, considerably drops the number of frames per second and makes the fights particularly unreadable. But this is not the only element questioned by the players, who find the game visually dated. If overall the rendering is considered “pixelated”, the community also points the finger at the overall brightness of the title, too dark for their taste. Added to this is the low display distance, the significant presence of aliasing, clipping and poorly detailed textures.
Square Enix and the PC: a stormy relationship
This isn’t the first time Square Enix has been taken to task over its PC ports. After NieR Automatait was the turn of Final Fantasy VII Remake to be strongly criticized. The fault is a lack of graphic options, a game that is too greedy for uneven rendering and incompatibility with UltraWide screens. Finally, lately it’s Babylon’s Fall who suffered from a technique considered late. For the moment, we have to believe that Square Enix is struggling to offer PC ports capable of satisfying its users.
This time around, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin benefits from more graphics options and UltraWide compatibility, but still suffers from a lack of technical rigor. On Reddit,
the community is already sharing its tips for running the game in better conditions. For the moment, Square Enix has not yet returned to the various problems exposed, but the studio is not particularly known for offering rigorous follow-up to its ports.
