Traffic on the route from Nguyen Trai to Nga Tu So (Hanoi) was disturbed because priority had to be given to the flying procession of the 5 Rising Villages Festival, on the morning of March 3.
On the morning of March 3, the 5 Growing Villages Festival (Hanoi) including Quan Nhan, Chinh Kinh, Cu Loc, Giap Nhat and Phung Khoang took place following nearly 10 years of not being organized. At 5:30 a.m., the procession of Phung Khoang village departs and passes through Nguyen Trai (Thanh Xuan) street.
As a rule, people in this area hold a common procession once every five years, but due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, this festival was canceled. Therefore, today’s event attracts a large number of attendees.
Many curious passersby with the long, brightly colored procession stopped to film and take pictures.
A short distance away, the procession accelerated once more. People also cheered and chased following making the procession look like a marathon.
A woman, because she was too hot and tired from running long distances early in the morning, took off her shirt, put on her shoes, and walked barefoot. “Tired but everyone is excited and excited because the festival is only held once every 5 years. Today my family took a break from work to follow the procession”, she said.
At 8:30, the floats gathered outside Quan Nhan street. Here, young men constantly make movements of turning the palanquin many times, running with flute feet. And the crowd cheered loudly.
According to custom, when meeting the saints, the palanquins have to bend down and rotate continuously, so it is called “revolving palanquin”. It shows that the Saints are greeting each other and are happy to be reunited. A holy palanquin consists of 4 people carrying them, constantly taking turns to keep their strength.
Towards the end, the members of the float team gradually lost their strength due to too much running and flying movements. A young man suffered a cramp while carrying a palanquin, he was taken out of the crowd and given water to drink.
Another young man injured his hand, the wound was bandaged but still bleeding while carrying it.
Mr. Thanh (Long Dinh palanquin team, Chinh Kinh village) had cramps in both legs following the performance of the palanquin running and spinning. He said that by the end of the session, he was exhausted but still very happy because this year he might join the procession and contribute to the cultural beauty of his village.
