Strange sign of life causes speculation

About the zombie game Dead Island 2 (away 19,00€ at to buy) something like a never-ending story has developed over the past few years. Again and again there were shifts, problems with development, new teams and every now and then a subtle sign of life. There is still no specific release date.

However, there was at the youngest investor conference A Q&A session with Lars Wingefors, Managing Director of Embracer Group, which includes THQ Nordic and Deep Silver (publisher of Dead Island 2) around the recently concluded fiscal quarter. The Q&A moderator threw out this prediction: “People kind of wrote off Dead Island 2 because they don’t know if it actually still exists. But it clearly does. Personally, I at least expect it to be out this – sorry, next fiscal year. Is that possible? What can we expect from the game? It’s been in development for probably ten years.”

Wingefors did not explicitly address this bait. However, he answered very evasively, leaving a lot of room for speculation: “I can’t talk about Dead Island 2 as it hasn’t been announced in this form by the publisher. But we have an unannounced AAA title that’s believed to be Dead Island 2. It’s difficult for me to say that to comment further. But I’m looking forward to the games that have not yet been announced.”

This answer doesn’t really leave the fans any smarter either. Especially since he obviously disregarded the announcement trailer released at E3 in 2014 – although Deep Silver wasn’t part of the Embracer Group at the time. Should Dead Island 2 actually appear in the next fiscal year, the release would fall between April 2022 and March 2023.
