Strained tomatoes: In the VKI test | Nachrichten.at

The Association for Consumer Information (VKI) tested 19 products, eleven in glass and eight in composite cardboard. Ten products were organic and nine came from conventional cultivation. The result: Almost two thirds of the products were rated “Very Good” or “Good”. Four products had higher levels of mold toxins, including both conventionally and organically grown products.

The German Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (ifeu) has also compared standard packaging alternatives: According to the study, composite cartons for pureed tomatoes are slightly more sustainable than disposable jars or tin cans.
