Second was the Spanish veteran Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) ahead of the Danish Kasper Asgreen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team).
At the finish, Valverde was 37 seconds behind the outstanding Tadej Pogacar, who had already won two stages and the overall ranking at the UAE Tour at the end of February.
Valverde (Movistar) was able to break away from Asgreen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) on the final kilometer up to the old town of Siena.

Kopecky triumphs: Van Vleuten beaten in gripping final
10 HOURS AGO
The UAE captain broke away from the field on one of the numerous passages downhill on dirt roads, gained a small lead and then accelerated once more on the uphill. In this way he put a decisive lead between himself and his pursuers, which reached the finish line.
The decisive attack: Here Pogacar rushes Alaphilippe and Co.
Alaphilippe with spectacular flair
“An incredible race. I started early and only had five kilometers to go before I knew I might do it. Even on the last climb I turned around to be sure. On the Santa Maria climb I wanted to give it my all and no one might follow. I was alone in front and then I had to go through with it,” said Pogacar
World Champion Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) experienced a moment of shock. The Frenchman was blown off one of the gravel sections by the wind along with other riders with a good 100 kilometers to go.
There was a mass fall in which Alaphilippe rolled over spectacularly. Afterwards, however, he was able to continue and also included the peloton once more.

The German drivers had nothing to do with the decision regarding victory. At least Leon Heinschke and Marco Brenner (both DSM) were able to make their mark in the breakaway group of the day, which was caught 50 kilometers from the finish line.
