After several days during which tropical temperatures have warmed Belgium, the population is preparing to see a stormy zone cross the country. Coming from France, this does not bode well since the 30 degrees will give way to showers, thunderstorms and even gusts of hail! If it should still be “good”, the thermometer will still drop around 15-20 degrees.
But this gloomy weather should not be the only source of concern for Belgians. Indeed, an important warning is issued to people who will hit the road this Sunday. You will have to be careful on the roads that have become slippery. “Even a little rain can give the impression of driving on ice,” explains Nieuwsblad Stef Willems from Vias.
This is explained by an accumulation of oil residues, rubber or even dust particles on the surface of the roads during this last month without rain. “In combination with water, this can create a thin, slippery and viscous layer,” he adds before calling for caution. “So please be very careful.”
The advice is simple: “Adjust your driving speed. Especially on bends, it can get treacherously slippery. Experience shows that there are always some accidents, linked to the dirtiness of the surface! »
The storms are coming
Sunday will begin under the sun and some high sails, but the gray weather and its stormy showers will return in force as the hours go by. However, the weather will remain dry in many places. The mercury will oscillate between 31ºC in Campine and 25 or 26ºC on the coast and in the Hautes-Fagnes. Aeolus will blow weakly or moderately.
The transition from Sunday to Monday will be threatened by a risk of thunderstorms over the whole of Belgium. Hailstorms might even join the dance. The thermometer will not drop below 15 to 20°C in light or moderate wind.
On Monday, the sky will be divided between sunny spells and cloudiness. The ground might be moistened by a few showers.
