Storms in Switzerland – mudslides in the Bernese Oberland and Aargau ++ Axenstrasse closed – SRF

Mudslides in the Bernese Oberland

The canton of Bern announced in the evening that mudslides had blocked the road between Zweilütschinen and Grindelwald. It was therefore closed. The village road in Brienz was also closed due to a mudslide. Both closures were in effect from 7 p.m. until further notice. The canton promised further information on Tuesday.

According to police, many rescue workers were deployed in the Brienz area and the Lütschinen valleys in particular. Several roads were closed.

According to police reports on X, the A8 motorway between Brienzwiler and Gnoll was closed in both directions in the evening. The reason was fallen trees. The police closed the main roads between Zweilütschinen and Grindelwald, Kandersteg and Frutigen, and between Bönigen and Iseltwald.

The cantonal road was not passable between Sörenberg LU and Schüpfheim LU.

Axenstrasse closed in the canton of Uri

A rockfall threatened the Axenstrasse on Lake Uri between Flüelen and Sisikon UR on Monday evening. Under no circumstances should anyone enter the rockfall area, it was said in the notice continue. Road users should avoid the area.

According to the canton of Uri, the section of road was closed from 8 p.m. after the surveillance systems in the “Gumpisch” area indicated terrain movements. Stones landed in the safety nets. The vehicles on the Axenstrasse had to turn around. No one was injured. The road and the bridge there were not damaged.

Experts will assess the situation once the weather has calmed down. The canton could not rule out further rockfalls due to the weather conditions. The Axenstrasse is an important access route to the A2 motorway and thus towards the Gotthard road tunnel.
