Storms: five provinces placed on orange vigilance, floods in the province of Namur

A wave of locally intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms is announced in Belgium for the beginning of the followingnoon, while another series of showers and fairly active thunderstorms will follow in France. “The south of the Sambre and Meuse furrow as well as the provinces of Limburg and Antwerp will have to deal with precipitation which will exceed 40 l/m2 in six hours in several places”, warns the IRM in a press release. Hail and gales will also be possible locally.

The rest of Belgium is placed in yellow vigilance. “Precipitation, possibly stormy, may lead to accumulations of 10 to 30 l / m2”, indicates the IRM. The provinces of East and West Flanders, which were on orange alert until 11 a.m., have since returned to code yellow.

The number 1722, for non-emergency interventions by firefighters, remains active.

In France, the intense stormy episode which crossed 65 departments of France on Saturday killed one person and injured 15, including two seriously, said the French Minister of the Interior.

Fifty interventions for firefighters in the Dinaphi area

Firefighters in the Dinaphi area (Dinant-Philippeville) were called for around fifty interventions on Sunday due to bad weather, said Lieutenant Patrice Liétart. The heavy rains mainly affected the Dinant-Ciney axis. The calls concern flooded roads or roads blocked by trees as well as flooded cellars.
