Severe thunderstorms hit the canton of Salzburg on Monday night. The districts of St. Johann im Pongau, Pinzgau and Tennengau were particularly affected. There are 30 fire brigades with about 150 male and female firefighters on duty in the evening and night. Several communities experienced power outages and flooding. Pinzgauer Straße (B311) between Lend and Schwarzach had to be closed following the mudslide.

Two forest fires in Wald in the Wünken and Pinzgau regions were probably caused by lightning strikes. Emergency services were called to a fire in Bramberg Aveldkogel (Pinzgau) at around 7pm. A farmhouse was engulfed in flames after a lightning strike. Regional fire brigade commander Klaus Portenkirchner announced that the fire was under control at 10 p.m. Alert level two was initially announced, but the level was raised to level three shortly afterwards. Around 80 people were on duty at the Bramberg, Neukirchen and Hollersbach fire brigade, and the volunteer fire brigade in Saalfelden was also alerted, but was Deported before arrival as no longer needed. Thunderstorms and floods in Pungao and Pinzgau

According to the Association of State Fire Brigades, there were 30 rescue locations in Salzburg canton on Monday evening. St. John’s, Saalfelden, Kaprun, Tuxenbach and Pisendorf are affected. The operation continued at full speed into the night.
