Storm leads to cancellations and delays in German long-distance transport

Eurocity, Intercity and ICE connections in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony are affected, as the railway announced on Thursday followingnoon. There are restrictions due to storm damage, for example, on the Kiel-Hamburg, Hamburg-Westerland and Kiel-Hamburg-Bremen-NRW routes.

The intercity connection Hamburg-Copenhagen is also affected. The railway also reported weather-related delays and cancellations in regional transport on Thursday. As an alternative for the journey from Hamburg to North Rhine-Westphalia, the railway recommended connections with a change in Hanover. Passengers should quickly find out regarding their connection online, it said.

All emergency services on standby

The train connection has been lifted for Thursday. Passengers might use their ticket on a later day. However, the DB also pointed out that long-distance trains were already very busy due to the upcoming Christmas period. “All emergency services are on standby,” said a railway spokesman. “We have brought together large equipment and repair vehicles so that – if necessary – we can remove fallen trees or remove branches from the overhead lines as quickly as possible.” The railway is watching what is happening. There is a risk of storm surges in the north and northwest of Germany on Thursday and Friday.
