Storm in Tuscany: 8 dead already

The nursery is located next to the Bardena River, which overflowed its banks on Thursday and flooded the area.

The 8 people who died in the storms were mostly seniors who were surprised by the storms. In Tuscany, not so much rain has fallen in such a short period of time for 50 years, explained regional president Eugenio Giani. It hasn’t rained so much since 1966.

The floods swept away people, furniture and cars.

The government in Rome declared a state of emergency because of the storms. This meant that five million euros were made available for initial relief measures. The authorities estimated the storm damage at half a billion euros.
