Storm Debby could become a hurricane: This is how it will reach Florida

Storm Debby is looming over the state of Florida, USA (USA), while authorities are issuing alerts, there is concern about the forecast that it could intensify.

It is a fact that Tropical Storm Debby, the fourth this season, will affect the state of Florida.

After passing through western Cuba, it emerged into the Gulf of Mexico in the early afternoon on Saturday.

According to the National Hurricane Center, at 5:00 AM, the center of Tropical Storm Debby was located at 25.5 degrees North and 84.0 degrees West.

It is moving at 20 km/h in a north-northwesterly direction, but a turn towards the north and a slower movement are expected in the next few hours.

Maximum sustained winds have reached 85 km/h and further strengthening is forecast.

Authorities in Florida and Georgia are urging residents to prepare.

When is storm Debby expected to make landfall in Florida?

Debby has sustained winds of 45 miles (72 km) and is located about 230 miles (370 km) southwest of Tampa, Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 2 a.m. ET update on the storm on Sunday, CNN reports.

Forecasters are focusing on two possible effects of the storm’s slow speed: More time will allow the system to gain strength toward hurricane strength, and if it persists, the Southeast could see massive amounts of torrential rain in the coming days.

Debby will make landfall on Florida’s Big Bend coast.

I might do it this Sunday night, or Monday morning.

It has a high probability of becoming a hurricane, with tropical storm force winds, which will extend up to 220 km from its center.

Heavy rains and dangerous storm surge are expected in the area.

They explain that the slower Debby moves and the longer it stays over warm waters, the more likely the storm is to intensify.

This is what has led meteorologists to predict that the storm could reach the strength of a Category 1 hurricane just before making landfall.

State rainfall estimates

Storm Debby could bring seemingly endless amounts of rain for days, with totals potentially reaching up to 50 centimeters.

The heaviest rainfall could reach 30 inches or more, depending on how long Debby lasts.

With an increase in forecast intensity, an increase in storm surge is anticipated.

Storm surge is ocean water being pushed inland by a hurricane’s onshore winds.

Storm surge flooding could reach 6 to 10 feet along Florida’s Big Bend.

Storm surges of 2 to 4 feet are expected in Tampa Bay. Storm surges of 12 to 36 inches are expected in Marco Island and other areas of southwest Florida.
