Very few of the large volunteer machinery at the Island Festival knew that they would be visited by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap). But when Støre entered the volunteer tent, he was quickly greeted by many who ensure that the Øya audience has a good experience.
– There are two ways to enjoy this festival, to be among the audience, enjoying themselves here, or to be a volunteer. It’s a win-win, they are part of a really great community and have a good time together, while also getting the festival experience, Støre told NTB.
It did not take long before Støre himself was put to work in the service of volunteering. First he got the “Kaffelars” rucksack on his back, and with it he poured coffee to several volunteers and thanked them for their efforts.
It got worse for Støre when he had to pour beer to surprised festival participants who saw the prime minister behind the tap tower. There was more foam than beer on the first attempts, but after guidance from a volunteer colleague, things sped up.
“Full hit!”, Støre exclaimed when he managed to pour the first perfect pint.
Although the voluntary work gave more flavor, the Prime Minister made no secret of the fact that he would like to experience the festival on the other side of the bar.
– But there are a number of things I value in life that I don’t get to do when I’m prime minister, and I just have to live with that as long as I’m prime minister.
