Stopping Illegal Immigration: Internal Security Forces Thwart Smuggling Operation Saving Lives at Sea

The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division issued the following communiqué: “Within the framework of the continuous follow-up carried out by the Internal Security Forces to combat illegal immigration from Lebanon to European countries via the shores of northern Lebanon, which is carried out by unsafe boats, many people have already drowned Some of them at sea, which led to the death of illegal immigrants on board.

As a result of the relentless efforts of the specialized sectors in the Information Division, it has received information regarding an unknown group preparing an operation to smuggle people across the sea, from the northern region to Italy, on board boats that will depart from Selaata beach, in return for sums of money ranging between 6,000 and 7,000 US dollars. for every immigrant.

As a result, orders were given to the specialized units in the Division to intensify patrols with the aim of thwarting the immigration process.

On the dawn of 7-8-2023, and following careful monitoring and control, the Information Division carried out two simultaneous operations in the minih-Danniyeh and Al-Muhammarah highways, which resulted in the following:

Miniyeh-Danniyeh Highway: The Division’s patrols stopped 111 Syrian nationals, including women and children, on two “pick-up” vehicles, led by the person called: A. F. (20 years old), accompanied by: Sh. M. (Born in 1989, Lebanese), m. R. (Born in 1993, Lebanese).

Al-Muhammarah Highway: The division’s patrols stopped 120 people of Syrian nationality, including women and children, on two “pick-up” vehicles, led by the person called: M. B. (Born in the year, Lebanese), accompanied by: I. h. (Born in 1990, Lebanese), m. s. (Born in 1989, Lebanese).

What happened at the dawn of the aforementioned date is not just a huge arrest operation carried out by the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces, as much as it was a humanitarian mission during which the lives of /231/ illegal immigrants were saved, who almost met an unknown fate at sea.

The investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
