Brussels – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg considered the upcoming Russian nuclear exercises “a serious challenge to NATO” and an “uncautious step” that Moscow will take, according to his claim.
Stoltenberg said in an interview with the Italian newspaper “Repubblica”: “These maneuvers represent a dangerous and imprudent challenge. From the beginning, Russia used the nuclear language, and President Putin gave a speech in which he did not rule out the possibility of his country using nuclear weapons. This is an unconscious position, and we have not witnessed any change in Moscow’s position that would force us to change our position. “Russia is aware of the devastating consequences of a nuclear confrontation.”
He stressed that NATO does not intend to participate directly in the Ukraine conflict, stressing that the main mission of its alliance at the current stage is to support Ukraine and prevent the conflict from expanding beyond its borders.
He continued: “President Putin did not trust that we would provide significant assistance to Zelensky, but we confirmed that we would not send forces to Ukraine. Also, Kiev did not ask us to do so, and wants us to continue supplying it with weapons and ammunition.”
On the 6th of this month, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced preparations for tactical nuclear weapons maneuvers with the participation of the Russian Air Force, Navy, and Navy.
She added that the maneuvers, the date of which has not been set yet, will come in response to the provocative statements of a number of Western leaders and their veiled threats to Russia.
