On April 26, 2023, the police surprised five individuals in the act of stealing in a warehouse at Saint-Ghislain station. There are two cars, already loaded with grapeshot, around 400 kilos. They are registered in Bulgaria.
The individuals explain, in broken English, that they had the agreement of the Infrabel workers who worked a little further away. The police do not believe them, especially since it was these workers who called them. The Bulgarians then declared that they thought that these pieces of metal were abandoned things. This was not the case, Infrabel was going to recycle this waste stored in a place prohibited from access to the general public.

The Bulgarians’ trial was held Friday morning before the Mons criminal court. None appeared before the judge and were therefore unable to listen to the indictment of the general public, who also did not believe their version of the facts.
Closed place, out of sight
“This scrap metal was stored in a closed place, which is not in view of people. No one might help themselves at this place, apart from Infrabel. These people did not have the right to enter the site and take scrap metal,” explains the deputy prosecutor.
According to the latter, this is probably not the first time that the defendants have gone to this location. They probably went there the day before.

The public prosecutor requested the seizure of the two vehicles used by the thieves. He notes that these individuals have no criminal record in Belgium, but that they have a specific record in Bulgaria. A sentence of one year and a fine of 200 euros are required once morest each of them.
The judgment will be pronounced at the end of November.
