Since its launch, the AirTag it has already been useful in a variety of situations, which includes the rescue of a stolen car to more… unusual cases, such as dismantling a donation embezzlement scheme. But just imagine a bull statue the size of a person (of tall stature) being retrieved with the help of the tracker?
That’s what happened in Saint Anthony (Texas, United States) with a restaurant called Tacos Don Manolito, which has in front of it a statue of a bull regarding 2 meters high and almost 70 kilos, affectionately nicknamed Manolo. Despite her weight and being chained to the site fence, she was taken from one day to the next, leaving the facade of the establishment a little less friendly.
The miscreants, however, did not imagine that there was an AirTag in Manolo. According to San Antonio Express Newsthe statue was quickly tracked down and the owner of the restaurant, David Barquetdid not play the adventurer: he soon communicated to the police the location that the Buscar application (Find My) was indicating in order to try to retrieve your pet.
Until he was found, as noted by 9to5Mac, the restaurant even ran an Instagram campaign, including offering a reward. According to the owner, the “mascot” was custom made and purchased in Mexico, being considered “part of the family”.
When the police arrived at the place indicated by the AirTag (a house), the people who were there said they had bought Manolo from someone else. Barquet, however, did not believe this claim, given the short time between the theft and the moment the statue was recovered. The police force, in turn, hopes that security camera footage will help identify suspects for the crime.
Anyway, in the end, the fiberglass statue was successfully recovered thanks to Apple’s tracker. Despite having returned from the “kidnapping” with some marks, Manolo is back at Tacos Don Manolito, which opened less than six months ago, in January, and has already gone through this situation.
After the incident, the restaurant’s employees reinforced the care of the statue, placing it inside the establishment shortly before closing it. However, we can see how the inconvenience was greatly mitigated by the capabilities of the AirTag, thanks to which Manolo is safe. ????
