Urban.brussels, the Brussels regional administration in charge of town planning and heritage, and the heirs of the Stoclet palace have reached an agreement around the projection of the 3D reconstruction of the building constructed in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, indicated Wednesday the Brussels Secretary of State for Heritage Ans Persoons at the Belga agency.
The 3D reconstruction produced by Urban.brussels and the ULB will be presented from December as part of the exhibition on the architect Josef Hoffmann at the Brussels Museum of Art and History.
The heirs of the Stoclet Palace did not initially want this 3D reconstruction of the building to be part of the exhibition, citing an infringement of property rights and privacy. The family began legal proceedings in October to prevent this screening. The case was to be examined in summary proceedings by the French-speaking court of first instance in Brussels on Wednesday.
An agreement was finally reached between Urban.brussels and the Stoclet heirs. The 3D reconstruction will be clearly visible from December 1 at the Museum of Art and History. “It would be a shame if the public never saw this beautiful scientific work,” said Ans Persoons.
This agreement confirms a rapprochement between the Stoclet family and the Secretary of State. The question of opening the Stoclet Palace to the general public for around ten days per year, according to the wish expressed by the Brussels government last October, however, remains unresolved.
Ans Persoons said the replenishment agreement is “a first step in the right direction.” “We will continue to strive to make this exceptional heritage accessible to all,” she added.
The Stoclet Palace, built in 1911, has been uninhabited since 2002 and was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009.
