St.Pölten (OTS) –

In February 2025, the three-year training for surgical technical assistance (OTA) will start at the Stockerau School of Health and Nursing. “The job profile of ‘surgical technical assistance’ was introduced nationwide in 2022 and is intended to appeal to all people with an affinity for technology and medicine who do not necessarily want to do traditional nursing training but are interested in a medical profession,” says State Councilor for Education Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. “We are pleased to be able to offer OTA training at the Stockerau school location in the future and thereby expand the training offering.”

The surgical assistants work in the clinics in the operating room area, in the processing unit for medical devices (AEMP), in the shock room, in the emergency room or in endoscopy. In the operating room, they are responsible for the care and support of patients, for instrumentation during an operation including the preparation of all necessary instruments, equipment and materials, for carrying out operation-specific positions or for coordinating work processes during the operation. You work independently on medical instructions.

Manuela Wiesner, MSc, deputy director of the Stockerau School of Health and Nursing, said: “The entry requirements for the OTA training are, among other things, being at least 17 years old or having successfully completed the 10th grade or being authorized to practice surgical assistance. “

The good transport connections (near Vienna) to the Korneuburg Stockerau State Hospital as a training location make it easy to reach by public transport as well as by car or bicycle. The Korneuburg-Stockerau State Hospital offers trainees accommodation if the need arises. In addition, a discounted lunch is offered, which is free during the internship. Another innovative feature of the OTA training is the four-day week, with Friday considered a non-learning day. Learning content is also offered in the form of distance learning according to the latest standards in digital technology. For this purpose, both PCs and free WiFi are provided on site. This modern type of training is optimally tailored to the needs of the trainees. The theoretical and practical part of the training takes place on the premises of the Korneuburg-Stockerau State Hospital.

Further information on requirements, support options as well as the admission process and application modalities can be found at pflegeschulen.noe-lga.at. Anyone interested can receive information and telephone advice from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Stockerau School of Health and Nursing on 02266/9004 ext. 11600. The application process starts in autumn 2024.
