Stocks in the United States closed lower at the end of trading on Monday, as the indices accompanied the downside, and losses were recorded in the sectors of oil and natural gas, technology and health services.
At the close of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.19%, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index weakened by 1.69% and the Nasdaq Index weakened by 2.18%.
The biggest gainers of the day on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which rose 0.69% or 0.37 points to trade at 53.90 at the close. On the other hand, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) stock added 0.44% or 0.27 points to end at 61.95, and Cos Travelers Inc (NYSE:TRV) share increased 0.42% or 0.78 points to 185.64 in late trade.
As for the weakest performance at the end of today’s trading, the Microsoft Group (NASDAQ:MSFT) shares closed down 3.94% or 11.71 points and traded at 285.26 at the close. American Express Inc (NYSE:AXP) fell 3.34% or 6.13 points to 177.57 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) share declined 2.58% or 1.40 points to 52.88.
On the other hand, the best performer in the S&P 500 was AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), which rose 7.46% to 19.63, and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) also continued to rise. at 4.13% and closed at 25.48, as well as the share of Delta Airlines Group (NYSE:DAL) ascending towards 4.00% and ending its trading at 38.21.
Among the worst performers today was Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY), which fell by 6.28% to close at 57.92 shares. IDEXX Laboratory (NASDAQ:IDXX), which lost 5.97% to 514.48, and NVIDIA Group (NASDAQ:NVDA), which weakened 5.20% and closed at 219.17 in today’s session.
On the other hand, the best performer on the Nasdaq was recorded by Veru Inc (NASDAQ:VERU), which rose by 182.30% to trade at 12.28, Hoth Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:HOTH) also continued to rise at 70.48% and closed at 1.05 levels, as well as the stock Athersys (NASDAQ:ATHX) It rose about 63.00% and ended its trading at 0.86.
Among the worst performers today were Singularity Future Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:SGLY), which fell 44.03% to close at 7.08 and Helix Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:MLTX), which lost 39.00% to 6.71. and arrow Bicycle Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:BCYC), which weakened by 38.69% and closed at 28.81 today’s session on the stock exchange.
The number of decliners exceeded the number of shares that closed higher with trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 2225 compared to 970, while 110 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2554 of the shares fell and 1287 strengthened its position, while 192 of the shares maintained their value.
Shares of AT & T Corporation (NYSE:T) climbed to a record low, rising 7.46%, or 1.36 points, to a price of 19.63. Veru Inc (NASDAQ:VERU) stock climbed to a 52-week high, as it rose 182.30%, or 7.93 points, to a price of 12.28. Shares of Helix Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:MLTX) fell to all-time lows, losing 39.00% or 4.29 points to 6.71.
500 volatility index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index traded 15.17% higher and closed at 24.37.
Gold futures contracts for June delivery rose 0.46% or 8.90 and closed at $1,954.50 an ounce. As for other commodities, WTI crude oil futures for May delivery fell 3.46%, or 3.40, and reached a price of $94.86 a barrel, and as for the June contract for Brent oil, it recorded a decrease of 3.67% or 3.77 points, and closed at $99.01 a barrel.
The EUR/USD pair maintained stability by 0.06% and traded at 1.09 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued to rise towards 0.83% and reached 125.36 levels.
The dollar index contracts, trading at an increase of 0.22% at the level of 99.98.
