Sting reinterprets his hit… “Russians”

On his instagram accountSting unveiled a reinterpretation of “Russians”. “I have rarely sung this song in the many years since it was written, because I never thought it would be relevant again, said the singer on his network. But, in light of one man’s bloody and woefully misguided decision to invade a peaceful, non-threatening neighbor, the song is, once again, a plea for our common humanity.”

His message of peace and support for Ukrainians is accompanied from a video where he reinterprets this unfortunately topical piece. Indeed, in 1985, Sting released “Russians” in the middle of the Cold War, to denounce the absurdity of the conflict of the time. Almost 40 years later, the now 70-year-old artist has reinterpreted his song, which now echoes the situation in Ukraine. Sting sings there the hope that the Russian people react and not allow themselves to be confronted with Soviet ideology. News share the same biology, regardless of ideology. Believe me when I tell you ‘I hope Russians love their children too'”, he hums in this title dedicated to “courageous Ukrainians who are fighting against this brutal tyranny” and “to the many Russians who protest this outrage despite the threat of arrest and imprisonment.” And to conclude. We all love our children. Stop the warre.
