Mumbai: Tanuja and Asha Parekh were the leading heroines of Hindi films in the sixties and seventies. After becoming senior actresses, both of them are openly saying that they are neglected in films. Amitabh Bachchan, his contemporary, is still getting leading roles and is still the leading man in films today. But they also said that they are being offered grandmother and mother roles.

The two spoke openly during the discussion of Maitri-Female First Collective. Amitabh Bachchan is writing roles exclusively for him even at this age. Why don’t people write such roles for us? We should also get some important roles for the film. It doesn’t. Either we are mother, grandmother or sister..this is what we get. Both of them stated that they are upset with the current situation in the Hindi film industry. Amitabh Bachchan, who is 80 years old, has five films released in 2022.

Asha Parekh also talked regarding the age gap between heroes and heroines that still exists in the industry. ‘It was as if the actresses of those days got married and their career was over. Not so now. 50 and 55-year-old heroes are still acting with 20-year-old heroines. They said that it has not changed even today.

Both stated that some things have changed in terms of age, wage equality and lack of hygiene in the film industry, but the gap in equal pay for men and women still remains the same.

Asha Parekh is the 2020 Dadasahib Phalke Awardee. In 1992, the country also honored him with the Padma Shri.
