Steven Spielberg saw “Indiana Jones 5”: the verdict is in…
Fifteen years following Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) – which incidentally did not meet with unanimous approval – Indiana Jones, still played by Harrison Ford, is regarding to return in a new epic.
The new film, entitled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will celebrate its world premiere on May 18 at the Cannes Film Festival: a prestigious screening for the prestigious franchise signed Steven Spielberg. Finally… until today. And yes, it is now James Mangold (Le Mans 66, Logan) who is in charge of the project and the result is, it seems, “really good”.
The Playlist, via Empire, reports that Steven Spielberg has seen the film and that his opinion is very positive. The director is even surprised to see how well James Mangold has adapted the formula of his franchise.
“I just had this experience two nights ago”, said Spielberg. “Bob Iger hosted a screening for many Disney executives and I came to the screening with James Mangold, the director. Everyone loved the movie. It’s a really, really good Indiana Jones movie. I’m really proud of what Jim has done with it. When the lights came on, I just got up and turned to the band and said, ‘Damn! I thought I was the only one who knew how to make a [film Indiana Jones] !’”
In The Dial of Destiny, set in the late 1960s, cinema’s most iconic professor-adventurer can be seen teaming up with his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), as he comes face to face with a Nazi plot and the race to the American-Russian space is raging. In the casting, we can also find Mads Mikkelsen in the role of the great villain of the film, an ex-Nazi recruited by NASA who has sinister projects to carry out, but also Antonio Banderas who plays a friend from Indiana and John Rhys-Davies who reprises his cult role of Sallah.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in France on June 28, 2023. The rest of the saga can be found streaming on Paramount+.
