In a text published Friday, December 1, by the USC Shoah Foundation, an organization founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg to record and preserve interviews with Holocaust survivors and other witnesses, the director responded to the attacks of Hamas on October 7. Through this organization, several stories from survivors of the attacks were collected as part of its Countering Antisemitism Through Testimony Collection initiative.
In this text, Steven Spielberg describes the Hamas attacks as “unspeakable barbarity”. “I never imagined I would see such barbarity once morest the Jews in my lifetime,” he added.
Josselin’s in-laws are in Gaza: “The situation is dramatic, it’s level zero for humanity”
Faced with the actions of Hamas, the director decided to take action. “Both initiatives, the recording of interviews with survivors of the October 7 attacks and the ongoing collection of Holocaust testimonies, seek to fulfill the promise we made to survivors: that their stories be recorded and shared in the goal of preserving history and working for a world without anti-Semitism or hatred of any kind,” he explained. “We must remain united and steadfast in these efforts.”
The director believes that these initiatives represent “an effort that will ensure that the voices of survivors are a powerful tool to counter the dangerous rise of anti-Semitism and hatred”.
