The man who stole the missing ruby-encrusted shoes worn in the movie ‘Wizard of Oz‘ has finally been caught after 20 years.
76-year-old Terry John Martin, who was arrested on charges of stealing shoes from a museum, pleaded guilty on Friday.
The shoes were stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in the late actor’s hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and recovered by the FBI in 2018.
These are no ordinary shoes, but worn by actress Dorothy Wells, who played the lead role in the American classic film ‘Wizard of Oz’, about which the police chief said, ‘These are not just a pair of shoes, but an enduring symbol of the power of belief.’ .’
Martin, who lives near Grand Rapids, had not been arrested before he was indicted this year. During a hearing in federal court in Duluth, Martin said he used a hammer to break the museum’s glass doors.
