MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings suffered a heartbreaking defeat in their final home match of IPL 2023 once morest Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. CSK’s plans were dashed when KKR spinners Varun Chakraborty and Sunil Narine were caught in the first innings of the match. Now, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming is upset that Chakraborty was let go despite being one of their top net bowlers a few years back.
Chennai Super Kings have made good use of some world-class spinners over the years. But despite being well aware of Varun Chakraborty’s great talent, CSK failed to add him to their team. The leg-spinner was serving as CSK’s net bowler before being snapped up by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2019 auction.
Although he might not shine much in Punjab, he found a new level in the ranks of Kolkata Knight Riders. Stephen Fleming has revealed that he regrets not being able to retain Chakraborty despite the fact that he used to run circles around them in the net sessions.
“It still hurts us not to be able to buy him at the auction. For years he had us shivering on the net. But we mightn’t keep him. Tamil Nadu players in different teams knew regarding him. “So we mightn’t keep him a secret,” Fleming said at the post-match press conference.
