WHO would have thought that the song “I Love You 3000” could be transformed into a musical work that is so profound and full of Bossa Nova nuances? Stephanie Poetri, a talented young singer from Indonesia, has managed to surprise fans with a new version of her hit song that now comes with a relaxed and surprising Bossa Nova nuance.

In an exclusive interview with Indonesian MediaStephanie revealed the reason behind her big decision to remake a song that is already loved by many people.

“I feel like the song ‘I Love You 3000’ means a lot to a lot of people, a lot of people use it as a wedding or engagement song. So, I thought it would be really cool to release a fifth anniversary version as an alternative for couples who want to use it for their wedding anniversary,” he said via zoom on Thursday (8/22).

From Popular to Timeless

Stephanie’s transformation of the song “I Love You 3000” was not limited to changing the musical arrangement. She also wanted to give a more mature and deeper feel to the song. The choice fell on the Bossa Nova genre, a Brazilian music genre that was popular in the 1950s and 1960s.

Bossa Nova is known for its laid-back melodies, soft rhythms, and often uses instruments such as acoustic guitar, piano, and percussion. The romantic feel and relaxed atmosphere presented by Bossa Nova make this genre very suitable for love songs.

“We chose the Bossa Nova style because I was playing at my mom’s concert, and the whole band was improvising in a Bossa Nova style. We were like, ‘Wow, this is so cool! We have to release this version,'” he said.

If the old version of “I Love You 3000” gives a sweet and romantic impression, then the new version with a Bossa Nova feel brings the listener to a more relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere. The change in more complex musical arrangements, the use of dominant acoustic instruments, and the lyrics that remain the same, but with different interpretations, give a new dimension to the message of love that is being conveyed.
