The 8th chamber of the Charleroi criminal court sentenced late Monday morning Stéphane Coszack, alias “the number one Walloon crook”, to 3 years in prison with a fine of 312,000 euros. The forty-year-old, already convicted on multiple occasions for various scams, was tried in absentia in two cases linked to offenses in the world of work. The labor prosecutor had requested the maximum sentence of 3 years in prison by default.
The defendant was prosecuted for various charges: remuneration problems, absence of work regulations and legal insurance, problem of remuneration of vacation pay, etc. On November 19, 2019, within the company Hercos Group at Place de la Digue in Charleroi, an inspection took place to verify the working conditions and remuneration of employees. “The defendant was present during this surprise visit. He directly admitted to being late for certain salaries for September and October and undertook to regularize the situation by November 22 and to submit the missing documents on December 16. Summoned for hearing on this date, he did not appear,” the labor auditor indicated.
Several workers subsequently filed complaints for unpaid wages. A second establishment managed by Stéphane Coszack is concerned by the second file, for unpaid social security contributions for more than 5,300 euros, as well as for the absence of Law insurance and the presence on site of around ten undeclared workers.
