With the seal of the Elegí Front, Peronism won the primaries in six of the seven municipalities of Mendoza where this Sunday elections were held with the single paper ballot format. Around 65% of the register came to leave their vote in the dark room. Beyond defeat, the senator and candidate for governor alfredo cornejo He maintained that it was a “good choice.”
As in other provinces and municipalities that held their elections disconnected from the national election, the cities of Maipú, San Rafael, Tunuyán, Lavalle, Santa Rosa, La Paz y Saint Charles They had their first electoral test this Sunday, April 30. The result was a reaffirmation for local Peronism in six locations, while the Encuentro por San Carlos space supported by Omar de Marchi (who split from Juntos por el Cambio in the province) won the majority of the votes in that city.
Beyond the fact that radicalism has governed for two periods at the provincial level, the communes ratified the governments of the justicialista party. The general elections will be held on September 3.
A deputy denounced embezzlement in the “largest civil work in the history of Mendoza”
Party by party, this is how the municipal elections in Mendoza were
In Maipú, the Elegí Front obtained 47% of the support, leaving Cambia Mendoza in second place (28%) and the Libertarian, Democratic and Retired Front in third place with a meager 6%. The result simulated the confrontation between De Marchi and Cornejo, estranged following the PRO leader decided to set up his own space to compete for the governorship, since Mauricio Pinti Clop ended up imposing himself on Néstor Majul, the dauphin of the radical congressman. On the other side, Matías Stevanato was once once more ratified in the administration for the general elections.
A few kilometers away, the election in San Rafael showed other nuances. There the brother of the mayor Emir Félix, Omar, prevailed over Nadir Yussuf, supported by La Cámpora. However, here Peronism also prevailed, although in a tighter way: the Frente Elegí added 40% of the votes and Cambia Mendoza 35%. In the latter, Abel Freidemberg prevailed, endorsed by Cornejo. The libertarians here also closed the podium with 9%.
The result emboldened the cambiemita space but Omar Félix was even more confident: “There is no way to reverse this difference; Let them be encouraged, but they are not going to beat us, ”he said.
In the city of Tunuyán, the mayor’s candidate, Emir Andraos, who was supported by 46% of the votes once morest 32% for Cambia Mendoza, also prevailed. There the most voted leader was Luis López. In the municipality of Lavalle, Edgardo González, blessed by Roberto Righi, collected the largest number of votes, who will not be able to renew his term in the municipality. The result showed the most resounding victory of Peronism, which prevailed with 68% of the votes once morest 16% of the Mendoza cambiemitas. There Lucas Luppo was the winner and will compete in the general elections.
The candidate of the Elegí Front in Santa Rosa, Florencia Destéfanis, added 52% of the support while Leonardo Fernández was in second place with 35%. Close to that result, the Peronist Fernando Ubieta prevailed in La Paz (50%), relegating Ramiro Blanco (42%).
However, not everything was a celebration for Peronism, since they lost in San Carlos with Alejandro Morillas. The candidate achieved 33.5% once morest 28% for Silvio Panocchia (supported by Cornejo), 22% for Marcelo Romano (Green Party) and 7% for the Elegí Front headed by Juan Torres.
Fury of Larreta and the PRO with De Marchi for blowing up agreements
With the results already tipped towards a general defeat, Alfredo Cornejo celebrated the performance of the Cambiemite candidates and expressed on social networks: “With 90 percent of the polling stations scrutinized, these elections have reflected a great election of the Frente Cambia Mendoza, in departments where we are not a government and where the ruling party presumed to be comfortable”.
The radical will compete this year to return to govern the province, something he achieved in 2015. On the other side will be De Marchi, who decided not to go following his candidacy and contest the election with his own space, generating a break in the Cuyo cambiemismo. The decision was so bombastic that the national PRO intervened in the provincial party. In this context, De Marchi added the libertarians to his army to obtain a greater number of votes.
