Stelzer wants money from “cold progression” for tax incentives

According to the demands of the Upper Austrian governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP), full-time employment in Austria should be made more attractive next year with tax relief for both full-time work and overtime. This is to be financed from the variable third, which is currently still looking for a use following the abolition of the “cold progression”, as the “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten” (OÖN) reported on Saturday.

The “cold progression” as a gradual tax increase in the area of wage and income tax was abolished in 2023. Now the tax brackets are adjusted every year to reflect inflation – but only by two-thirds. What the government does with the remaining additional revenue is up to it.

For Stelzer, the prospect of a tax incentive for full-time work and overtime represents a “contribution to counteracting the labor shortage”.
