Stellantis Automotive, which reached a temporary agreement with the United Auto Workers of America (UAW) union on Saturday, is now negotiating to avoid a strike at its operations in Canada.
Bloomberg News reported that the Unifor union, which represents auto industry workers in Canada, is trying to convince the auto company to agree to an agreement similar to new three-year agreements it signed with both Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
The union warned that workers would go on strike if there was no agreement by midnight Toronto time on Sunday.
While Unifor union president Lana Bean said earlier this month that she expected some resistance from Stellantis, the union reported last Friday that there was some progress in negotiations.
The United Auto Workers union targeted the three auto companies in Detroit simultaneously, and extended its strikes in the United States early this week once morest General Motors.
