Stellantis Adapts to Stricter Emissions Regulations: Gas-Only Cars No Longer Stocked in 14 US States

2023-06-20 07:00:00

The car company Stellantis now only sells pure combustion cars in 14 US states on order. This means that Stellantis combustion-only engines will no longer be stocked at dealerships in these states. US brands such as Jeep, Dodge and Ram are also affected.

These are the 14 US states that are adapting California’s stricter emissions regulations. This is a noteworthy step, because many US customers take it for granted that they will buy a vehicle in stock to take away immediately – customers are often unwilling to wait several weeks or months for a vehicle to be ordered.

In the other states with the emission regulations set by the federal government, however, Stellantis has chosen the other extreme: There, the carmaker will no longer deliver electrified models to dealers unless customers have already ordered them.

“The communication to our dealers simply recognizes the reality that we may need to adjust vehicle allocations between California and the states to ensure Stellantis meets the different standards across California states,” the company told Autonews.
