As we eagerly await Apple’s next keynote, rumors and leaks regarding the brand’s future products continue to fuel the conversations of techies. One of the more intriguing speculations concerns the future iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (or Ultra) which might experience a notable material revolution: the switch from stainless steel to titanium.
Titanium: an answer to criticisms of weight and design?
The iPhone 14 Pro Max, at 240 grams, is very close in weight to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, a hybrid tablet phone that naturally should be heavier due to its dimensions and design. This similarity in weight, coupled with sharp edges on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, has drawn criticism from some users, despite the premium look that stainless steel gives the devices.
According to @Tech_Reve (Revegnus)and leaker known in the industry, the transition to titanium would allow Apple to reduce the weight of its new models. The iPhone 15 Pro would thus be 15 grams lighter, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max (which would be called Ultra) would lose 19 grams. These reductions, although modest, might offer a noticeable difference in terms of handling and comfort of use.
More expensive iPhones on the horizon
Titanium is known for its exceptional strength, light weight and resistance to corrosion. Apple has already proven itself using this material” aerospace grade on his Apple Watch Ultra. However, the cost of this material is significantly higher than that of stainless steel. This factor might be one of the reasons why Apple would increase the price of its iPhone 15 Pro and Ultra. Rumors suggest a potential upside of at least $200 for each storage variant.
It is important to note that this information is, to date, only rumours. Only Apple’s keynote, expected in a few weeks, will provide definitive answers.
