Steam Deck secretly downgrades hardware, SSD from x4 to PCIe 3.0 x2

According to reports, Valve Coporatian changed the technical specifications given on the Steam Dcek official website platform in May. The Steam Deck, which was originally equipped with a PCI express 3.0×4 SSD, has now been changed to a PCI express 3.0 x2 SSD. And said that this change will not make it have an impact on game performance.

From the technical specification table given so far, we can see that Steam Deck 64GB eMMC with PCIeGen 2×1; 256GB is NVMe SSD with PCIeGen 3×4 or PCIeGen3x2*; and 512GB is high-speed NVMe SSD with PCIeGen 3×4 or PCIeGen3x2*. All models of the Steam Deck are 2230 m2, and all use a high-speed MicroSD card slot. In addition to the 64GB, the 256GB and 512GB models are all equipped with PCIeGen 3x2SSD, and from the test results, we didn’t see any impact on the game with the x2 compared to the x4.

However, due to the lack of materials, Steam Deck was forced to delay the official shipment in February this year by two months. In addition, according to the official Steam platform, Valve Coporatian is currently accelerating the completion of the accumulated orders, and decided to greatly increase the shipments of Steam Deck this week to meet the needs of more players, let us stay tuned!
