Staying United in Turbulent Times: PASOK’s Unshakeable Commitment to Party Harmony

The second and decisive round of the PASOK elections is just around the corner with Nikos Androulakis presenting himself as a unifier and asking for people’s participation similar to that of last Sunday (06.10.2024).

“We want a great participation again. It’s worth participating, it’s worth taking the fate of the faction into your own hands. As you did on the first Sunday”, was the invitation of Nikos Androulakis to the 303,000 voters who participated in the first round of PASOK’s internal party elections, speaking on SKAI radio.

Nikos Androulakis added that they gave strength to all the candidates, “because you saw that this whole fight did not go to waste. And everyone’s speech and presence showed that it moved people, over 300,000, and they honored us all together,” as he specifically stated.

Nikos Androulakis appeared unifying, as he underlined: “I have to tell you from my heart that I do not divide the world of PASOK, neither 70-30, nor 80-20. I’m talking 100% unity from the next day. To come again to vote. Together we will fight the battle and together we will make PASOK strong. Not simply for a partisan patriotism that we all have within us. But the country needs a change of page. If we don’t succeed, no one else can.”

The president of PASOK, who came out first in the second round, made an opening to all his fellow candidates.

“We share concerns with my co-candidates. There are no differences. We will have a common pace, we will all be together. And most obviously everyone in a field in which they will be able to contribute to the lineup. There is no other way,” he pointed out.

“We got out of the difficulties, we took the first big step”
In particular, regarding the discussion he had with Pavlos Geroulanos in the morning, Mr. Androulakis said that they have a common language of understanding. “I want to tell you that Pavlos Geroulanos was in an important sector in the Parliament, the Economy Sector, responsible for the Recovery Fund, a large financial tool where New Democracy has made a mess of things. Work has been done and we are all trying to do the best we can. I am sure that we will cooperate even more strongly”, he noted and added: “We got out of the difficulties, we took the first big step. We are at another stage and the next plan is to find a way to express the expectations of the citizens. This is the goal of all of us, not only the candidates, but also the other executives of PASOK. It requires a lot of seriousness, responsibility, not to make the mistakes of yesterday – and those over time and what I did. We can fix things. I am optimistic because the citizens need a progressive government”.

Mr. Androulakis pledged that one of the first things he will do will be a big conference for the Self-Government.

“We must go to a European normality in terms of the way the Self-Government operates, with major changes. If you look at what Portugal did, it shows that some states see the deficits and run fast. We threw responsibilities to the Self-Government without resources. Citizens want better services, because the Local Government is constantly by their side, but the possibilities are not there. Personally, I submitted relevant proposals to the TIF. We have to find solutions,” he said.
