Even though the construction holiday has officially begun, motorists will still see orange cones since roadwork can still take place. Although the majority of obstructions will take place at night, some closures are scheduled for the entire weekend.
“Users coming from Montreal or Quebec are invited to plan their trips accordingly if they wish to go from one side of the river to the other, by highways 20 or 40”, underlined the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility in a press release.
This is particularly the case for the Louis-Hyppolite-La Fontaine Tunnel, which will be closed northbound until 5 a.m. Monday morning. Cars will be asked to take the Jacques-Cartier Bridge exit before going through De Lorimier Avenue South and Notre-Dame Street East. Trucks will have to pass on rue Notre-Dame Est via boulevard Pie-IX and rue Sherbrooke. Note that the tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
Work on Viger Avenue at Saint-Laurent Boulevard might also cause a slowdown until July 28 with the closure of two lanes out of three westbound.
People who have to travel at night will have to plan their trips due to numerous closures on the various highways in Greater Montreal, including the 13, 15 and 440.
