2023-10-13 14:39:15

The flu vaccination campaign will begin on October 17, 2023 and end on January 31, 2024. This vaccination is recommended for people at risk of developing a serious form of the flu. To be doubly protected, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommends that they also be vaccinated once morest Covid-19.

Why is it essential to get vaccinated once morest the flu?

The flu virus evolves every year, so it is essential to protect yourself from it and get vaccinated every year. This virus is particularly contagious and can expose vulnerable people to the risk of developing serious complications from the flu or worsening a chronic illness. In case of diabetes, a flu infection can lead to a blood sugar imbalance or worsening of complications. In addition, influenza contamination can lead to a bacterial infection in the lungs: pneumococcal pneumonia, a serious complication (your doctor may recommend pneumococcal vaccination).

Who is affected by vaccination?

People at risk (consult the detailed list in the 2023 vaccination calendar):
• people aged 65 and over;
• people under the age of 65 with certain chronic illnesses (type 1 and 2 diabetes, COPD, asthma, heart failure, etc.);
• pregnant women ;
• people suffering from severe obesity (BMI equal to or greater than 40 kg/m2)
• those around infants under 6 months of age at risk (who cannot be vaccinated) and immunocompromised people.
Certain professionals are also concerned:
• healthcare professionals and professionals from medico-social establishments in contact with patients at risk;
• home help for vulnerable individual employers;
• professionals exposed to swine and avian influenza viruses.

Who can vaccinate you?

Several professionals are authorized to vaccinate once morest seasonal flu:
• the doctors ;
• nurses, without prescription and on presentation of the care voucher for people aged 16 and over and on medical prescription for people up to 15 years old inclusive;
• midwives (for pregnant women and those close to infants at risk of severe influenza);
• community pharmacists, upon presentation of the care voucher for people aged 16 and over.

What is the coverage for the vaccine?

If you are affected by the vaccination recommendations, your health insurance fund will send you an invitation and a voucher. This voucher will allow you to receive the flu vaccine free of charge and be reimbursed for the injection. If you have not received your voucher, your doctor, midwife or pharmacist can issue you one.

Four seasonal flu vaccines are available:
• Fluarix Tetra, Vaxigrip Tetra, Influvac Tetra (from 6 months);
• Efluelda (from 65 years old).

Double vaccination: flu and Covid-19

Vaccination is recommended to protect people at risk of developing a serious form of influenza who are also those at risk of serious Covid-19 infection. To be doubly protected, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommends that they also be vaccinated once morest Covid-19. It is possible to be vaccinated at the same time.
For any questions related to your vaccinations, ask your doctor for advice.

Barrier gestures to maintain

To limit the spread of these two viral infections, flu and Covid-19 for yourself and those around you, it is advisable to maintain barrier gestures:
• wear a mask when it is obligatory or recommended,
• wash your hands regularly or use a hydroalcoholic solution,
• cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue,
• blow your nose into a single-use tissue then throw it away.
