The weather on Tuesday April 9 will be unstable with sometimes stormy showers in many regions, according to forecasts from Météo-France, which places eleven departments on orange alert for floods or wave-submersion.

The conjunction of high tides and strong waves linked to the Pierrick depression induces a marked risk of wave-submersion for the departments of Finistère (northern coast), Côtes-d’Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Manche, Seine-Maritime, Somme and Pas-de-Calais, placed on orange vigilance.

The depression is accompanied by strong westerly winds in the Channel, which generate and maintain strong waves, specifies the meteorological service in its morning bulletin.

Furthermore, an orange flood alert concerns Seine-Maritime, Eure, Charente-Maritime, Gironde and Pyrénées-Atlantiques. “During the last ten days, the country has experienced a succession of rainy episodes. This precipitation, occurring on soils already saturated with moisture, triggered floods on many rivers in France.the Vigicrues site explained on Monday.

Météo-France stressed that “the storm passed further north than expected” and only winds “a little less powerful than expected”of 102 km/h, were recorded in Plougonvelin, 97 km/h in Ploudalmézeau or even 95 km/h in Brest, in Finistère.

Depression Pierrick will circulate over England today and move into the North Sea in the afternoon.
