The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) issued a warning to motorists on Sunday. Due to snow showers forecast from Sunday evening until Monday, the roads in much of the country are slippery.
The entire country, with the exception of the provinces of Hainaut and West Flanders, is placed on yellow alert for slippery conditions from this Monday morning until early Tuesday afternoon, indicates the Royal Meteorological Institute.
The MRI predicts winter showers in all these regions, it will probably be sleet in the provinces of Antwerp, Brabants and Limburg, while a small white coat could settle in the Ardennes. In certain places in the provinces of Namur, Liège and Luxembourg, an accumulation of up to a good ten centimeters is not excluded.
During the night from Monday to Tuesday, frost will be widespread across the country, “these conditions could therefore lead to the formation of patches of ice, particularly on surfaces made wet by precipitation”, warns the IRM.
The rest of the weather forecast
Mardi, the weather should remain dry with beautiful sunny periods. In the Ardennes, we will probably first have to deal with morning gray and a risk of freezing fog, then clearings will be possible. The maxima will be between 0 and -4 degrees south of the Sambre et Meuse furrow, around +1 degree in the center of the country, and +3 degrees on the coast.
Wednesday, an active disturbance could affect all or part of our territory from France. The exact scenario is not yet well defined since Belgium will find itself ambushed between the cold air which will stagnate over the Netherlands and the significantly milder air reaching France from the Atlantic. We will likely experience snowfall with temperatures around (or slightly below) 0 degrees. The largest quantities should concern the southern half and/or the center of the territory. In the extreme south (freezing) rain will be temporarily possible.
The day of THURSDAY will start with quite a few cloudy fields and snowfall especially in the south-east of the country but elsewhere, the weather will often be dry and large clearings will already be present. Gradually, the sun will spread throughout the country and the weather will generally remain dry, except for a winter shower. At the coast and near the border with the Netherlands, the risk of (winter) showers will be greater. The maxima will be between -2 and -5 degrees on the heights of the Ardennes, between +1 and +3 degrees by the sea as well as in the north of Flanders; they will be close to, or slightly below 0 degrees where a layer of snow will cover the ground.
Friday, the weather will also be generally dry and often sunny. In the Ardennes, however, low clouds and/or fog will be possible.
