(CNN Spanish) — Evacuation orders are in place for the Florida coast as Tropical Storm Idalia advances and threatens life-threatening storm surge, winds and torrential rains on the state’s coast beginning Tuesday.

Idalia is expected to become a hurricane on Monday as it approaches western Cuba, bringing a “life-threatening” storm surge and increasingly dangerous winds to parts of Florida, according to the forecast from the National Hurricane Center.

Authorities have issued mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders in at least five counties along the Florida coast.

Hernando County, north of Tampa:

Mandatory evacuations for parts of the county go into effect this Tuesday morning. Voluntary evacuations are in effect. The shelters are scheduled to open at noon this Monday.

“If we get the 8-foot storm, 9-foot storm surge that’s forecast, it’s not going to bode well for the west coast of Hernando County,” said the Hernando County Director of Emergency Management. , David DeCarlo.

Manatee County, south of Tampa:

Manatee County Government will close at noon Monday, Interim Manatee County Administrator Charlie Bishop announced. The transit will remain in operation until the winds are above 72 km/h, he added.

A significant storm surge is expected along the barrier islands and coastal communities, with the earliest expected arrival on Tuesday, Manatee County Public Safety Director Jodie Fiske said.

Pasco County, north of Tampa

“Storm surges and life-threatening hurricane winds are expected to affect Pasco County later this week,” the county said.

Pinellas County, west of Tampa

County officials have ordered a mandatory evacuation for some coastal residents, including health care facilities.

“Anticipating possible life-threatening storm surge as Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast to become a major hurricane,” the county said.

Earlier, county authorities declared a local state of emergency and were preparing two school shelters in case of evacuations.

Taylor County, 50 miles south of Tallahassee

The county Sheriff’s office issued a mandatory evacuation order for all coastal residents. The order is in effect for mobile homes, mobile homes and substandard housing, according to a statement.

The authorities reported that there will be no shelter in the county during the storm, but it will be enabled once the cyclone passes.
