It’s official, we have just faced a heat wave: all the criteria have been met. And it will last a few more days. The IRM maintains its yellow alert for high heat for the entire center of the country, at least until Tuesday evening. Inevitably, we all seek to refresh our interior. Stores are selling off their inventory of fans and air conditioners faster than in other years.
With the current temperatures, everyone is trying to cool off. “I open windows when possible. And then I cool off with water, I put compresses on my face”confides a lady crossed in a household appliance store. “We can’t sleep at night, because of the heat”says another customer.
In stores, air conditioning devices are multiplying, with very specific characteristics and functions. “Here we have the coolers. The advantage is that we put ice cubes in the back and it will continuously brew fresh air in the room”explains Vlad Dascalu, head of the air conditioning department in a household appliance store.
“There are air conditioners, which will process the air in the room and therefore evacuate the heat. And finally, the fans which will stir the ambient air in the room. You will have a feeling of freshness but it will not will not purify the air”continues this official.
The air conditioner has a high energy consumption and selling price, but it cools the rooms quickly. The fan consumes less power, and its price is reasonable. But he’s just blowing the air. The cooler, finally, costs around 100 to 400 euros, and must work with ice cubes.
Earlier than expected
In another household appliance store, around twenty of these devices have been sold every day since the start of the heat wave. “We have been selling fans and air conditioning for almost 10 days. The stock we receive in the morning is sold at the end of the day. We are lucky, we are not badly replenished , so we have a lot of stock that comes in every day. It allows customers to be able to buy them every day.”says Eric Servaes, manager of a household appliance store.
However, air conditioning should be used with care, as it contributes in some way to global warming.
