The National Health Service (NHS): Type 2 diabetes, the most common type of disease, is a condition that occurs when the level of glucose in the blood, also called blood sugar, is too high.
Heathline explains: “One observational study looked at the risk of developing diabetes in 2,800 people. Those who consumed more than two servings of sugar-sweetened beverages per day had a 99% increased risk of developing LADA and a 20% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes: “Frequently drinking sugar-sweetened beverages is associated with overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, nonalcoholic liver disease, tooth decay, and gout, a type of arthritis.”
As The Nutrition Source says: “Excess weight is the single most important cause of type 2 diabetes. Being overweight increases your chances of developing type 2 diabetes by nearly sevenfold. Obesity makes you 20 to 40 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone of a healthy weight.”
Losing weight can help if your weight is above a healthy weight range.
